Why Every Student Needs A Graphing Calculator

Why Every Student Needs A Graphing Calculator

Most parents would never doubt an item on their child's back to school list, but that sometimes changes when they need to buy a graphing calculator. These calculators can be pricey and parents usually want to know why they are necessary. Rest assured, although they may cost more than the average calculator, they are an important tool for any student.

The main reason that teachers require their students to have graphing calculators is that they are necessary in certain subjects. When a student begins studying higher level algebra or trigonometry, they will need to solve problems that they simply can not do on their own. In these courses, a student can not be successful unless they have a graphing calculator.

They are also very helpful in keeping students organized through the semester. A graphing calculator with adequate storage can store class notes as well as equations and lines. This makes it much easier for a student to complete their work because they do not need to enter information into the calculator multiple times in order to check their work or complete a program.

It is also important for parents to remember that their child may use the graphing calculator in a variety of classes. Aside from math class, they are often a requirement for students who are studying chemistry or physics. If a student plans on pursuing math at the college level, the calculator is a good investment in their academic future.

A graphing calculator may be the most expensive school supply a parent ever needs to supply, but it is necessary for their child's success. In many math classes, students simply will not be able to do the work if they do not have one. In addition, they include on board storage that helps students stay organized and efficient in their problem solving. …

Can You Do It Like the President?

Can You Do It Like the President?

President Obama spoke to a crowd of about 13,000 at Colorado State University one Tuesday afternoon. They had been standing in the hot sun for hours, and were eager to hear the President's message. I had seen him speak when he was a candidate, and remember thinking what a great speaker he was back then. I wanted to listen to his speech differently this time, and bring back some tips for my community.

No matter what your political beliefs, we can all learn some things from seeing him speak live. Here are some of the things the President did that made his speech powerful, impactful, and right on target. They are things we all can do.

He targeted his message for his audience.

He knew there would be a large number of students in the audience. He targeted much of his speech to them. He said, "For the first time in many of your lives, you'll get to pick a president." He emphasized the importance of college affordability, strengthening the economy, and the important role that young people will play in this election.

He created a "Rumble" -a contest between Colorado State University, and Colorado University (CU) in Boulder to see who could register the most voters. He got the audience excited.

He also knew he had thousands of middle class voters from the community, and targeted some of his message specifically to them.

We need to do the same. It's critical to know your audience. Know their struggles, their pain, what they'd pay money to solve. Then target your message to those pain points. Show them how you can be the bridge to take them from their problem to their solution.

He was real. He was authentic. He was likeable.

President Obama seems like the kind of guy you could invite out for a beer or a coffee. He did not hide behind some puffed out chest, "I'm the President" persona. You got the sense he was having a conversation with you.

From his loosened tie and rolled up shirt sleeves to his easy manner, he was engaging. He was relatable. He shared stories from his and Michelle's lives that made him even more real. Stories create emotional connection and memorable moments.

I often talk about not being a "sage on the stage," and about the importance of establishing both credibility and vulnerability. This is what makes you relatable. This is what makes people feel like, "she gets me!" This is what makes people know you, like you and trust you.

Be you. Be real. Be authentic-on stage and off.

He had a point of view.

Whether you agreed with him or not, it was clear where he stood on the issues he focused on. He spoke about such issues as healthcare reform, concern for the middle class, renewable energy, foreign affairs, education, and strengthening the economy. His point of view was clear.

So many speakers wimp out. They are "just like everyone else" on their topic. They do …

3 Easy Tips on How to Remove the Effects of Pepper Spray in Your Dorm Room

3 Easy Tips on How to Remove the Effects of Pepper Spray in Your Dorm Room

One of the greatest parts of any dedicated high school student’s life is the chance to be able to go to college. College life is basically the opening of great opportunities and the best way of getting your most-sought-after freedom. You’ll finally be able to do everything you want away from your parents’ watchful eyes. For any parent, a child going off to college is both a happy and heartbreaking sight to look at. The fact that you won’t be there to protect and defend her can be very disturbing at times.

Staying in dormitories, especially co-ed ones can be quite unsafe especially for freshmen since they are the ones who are mostly taken advantage of. There are actually several ways for you to be able to defend yourself, one of which is keeping pepper spray on hand. Pepper spray is one of the best options for students on the go since they are easy to carry and easy to use. However, you need to be extra careful in handling your pepper spray or any self defense device for that matter if you want it to work to your advantage. But for future reference, here’s what you need to do in case you accidentally sprayed or spilt pepper spray in your dorm room.

Tip#1 Let the Air Out

Open all the windows and doors of your room so that the harmful smell can be carried along by the passing air. You need to cover your mouth while you do this considering that it could cause you constricted breathing once you inhale it. Turn on your air conditioner or ceiling fans to help dispel the smell. Turn it to its full capacity so the air is passed along faster and quicker. Remember that it will take a while before the air gets neutralized so you need to be patient.

Tip#2 Take Care of the Culprit

While waiting for the smell to be dissipated, find the source of all the mishaps- the pepper spray canister. Unless you do something to take care of it fast, the smell will just keep on coming back and you will still feel your eyes being irritated and your breathing restricted. Do this as fast as you can to avoid further disastrous situations.

Tip#3 Freshen Up Your Room

Once you have done the first two tips, the air will be quite neutralized already. But for the finishing touch, you may have to deodorize your entire dorm room by applying air freshener all over. Air fresheners will help in battling the bad smell caused by the pepper spray while getting rid of the remaining particles in the air. These residual particles can still cause great harm if you fail to remove it from the air.

Make sure that you put your pepper spray canister in the safest area of your dorm room to avoid accidents from happening. Keep it away from sharp objects or from high portions to avoid it being ruptured or broken. You can also keep …

UK Graduates Looking Short-Term At Their Long-Term Financial Responsibilities

UK Graduates Looking Short-Term At Their Long-Term Financial Responsibilities

With almost two thirds of university entrants from England and Wales who applied for maintenance grants for this year being unsuccessful, and the average graduate owed £ 13,501 when they leave, according to Barclays, combined with a survey by High Fliers Research showing that only 21% of students were confident of managing to enter a graduate-level job this year, it is not surprising that there is a feeling of gloom hanging over many UK university entrants.

According to a survey of students from 30 institutions; 63% believed there are not enough graduate jobs for everyone leaving university this year, with a fifth stipulating that they felt that there were only limited jobs available.

Jeremy Law, the head of student and graduate banking at Barclays said, "If this trend continues, students starting a three-year course this September could be graduating with debts of almost £ 20,000 … graduates will find themselves with debts for years to come which may affect their ability to buy homes and invest in pensions … prince or pauper, these levels of debt may act as a detriment to some people considering going to university. "

There are sources of help advice available to prevent student's finances snowballing out of control, with important financial institutions such as Moneynet and other online comparison web sites providing guides to help students with their money, and Barclays Bank recently encouraging students to;

"Consolidate their borrowing and pay off the debts with the highest interest rates first by making use of the cheapest borrowing options, for example, interest free graduate overdrafts or graduate loans … where possible salaries should keep a tight reign on their finances to help set them up financially for the future. "

With increases in general levels of graduate debt, negativity surrounding job prospects, and the government concerned with meeting its 2010 target of getting 50% of the under-30s into university, you might expect trepidation over long-term debt to be entering into the psychology of both students and government alike, however this does not, overall, appear to be happening. The government is determined to continue with its plans, and students are still racking up huge student loans and personal debts by focusing on everyday financial pressures, rather than their future.

While worries about money add to their levels of depression, anxiety and stress, university students in Bath declared that it was the short-term lack of cash for paying bills and covering everyday expenses that caused them the greatest concerns.

Students interviewed by Dr Adrian Scott of the University of Bath indicated that, "They think there's nothing that can do about the debts, so there's no point worrying."

A report, connected for Liverpool Victoria has suggested that in 18 years time when today's 'Child Trust Fund Generation' go to college, English student debts will average approximately £ 43,825 which would be about 83% of their first years graduate salary. A worrying figure, but one which does not, according to Liverpool Victoria; "take into account that there is a …

Is an Interior Design Career Right For Me? – And Where Do I Start?

Is an Interior Design Career Right For Me? – And Where Do I Start?

"How do I get into Interior Design?" There's no one-size-fits-all answer (thankfully!). Few careers require such a unique blend of artistic and technical skills, but Interior Design comes in enough flavors to suit diversity skill sets and personalities.

In General, the profession falls into two distinct categories: Interior Decorating and Interior Design. They are both completely viable avenues and there are many professionals with successful careers in each.

"Interior Decorating" : If you prefer residential interiors, and enjoy focusing on furnishings and decor rather than space planning and codes, there are many satisfying and profitable options to explore and Interior Decorating may be your perfect fit. Image is not Required, (but you need to be aware of the laws regulating the practice of ID in your state). Some great options: Decorating for individual home owners, home staging, interior re-design, working within a design / decorating firm or on your own, working for or with builders preparing model homes, or apartment / condo / townhome leasing companies to name a few.

So how do I get there ?? – As with anything, the key to your success will be your motivation and commitment! The more you are willing to put in the more you will achieve. The most straight forward way to start is to take classes at a university or community college, but if you are not in a position to go to school right now, there are still some very practical steps you can take. The Hardest Part is Just Getting Started – SO …… GET STARTED !!! There are many paths, but here's a suggested 6-step Action Plan to get you going:

  1. Self-Study – not an online degree (Avoid those completely for Interior Design), but rather to use the available free and low cost resources in a focused, disciplined, and intentional way in order to familiarize yourself with design concepts and to develop practical skills . These resources will not, of course, replace a university degree … but they will help you to explore real issues and topics which designers face on a daily basis (not the 'fluff' seen on TV and in magazines). Some of these skills can legitimately be included on a resume as you seek entry-level design jobs in order to set yourself apart. This is a great first step for those anxious to get started towards their dream, but who can not yet leave an existing job … or for an at-home parent to learn skills on your own schedule … Some examples of free study options are: learn 3d modeling and rendering with Google Sketch-up; learn AutoCad basics – get a starter book, even buy it used, then download a 30 day Acad trial; There are some well done free CEU opportunities aimed at Architects and Designers, but you do not have to be a professional to take them …
  2. Read – Read anything that catches your interest incorporating design. This can be library books, grocery store magazines, websites, etc … Fluff is
Immigrate To Canada? Yes, But How?

Immigrate To Canada? Yes, But How?

The application itself has to be delivered to CPC Sydney and must be accompanied by a processing fee of $ 100 plus in most cases a Right To Citizenship fee of additional $ 100.00 for adults. CPC reviews the application for its proper completion including all necessary information, and if the processing fee has been paid. If everything is in order the applicant will receive a confirmation letter that the application has been received. This confirmation letter is accompanied by a copy of 'A Look at Canada', a guide on which the written Citizenship is based on.
At the same time CPC will forward the application to the RCMP and the Canadian Security and Intelligence Service (CSIS) for a background check. The background check includes a check for a criminal record, security record and immigration record. Finally CPC prepares a certificate package and sends it to the CIC office near the applicant's address. The CIC office sets a date for the citizenship test and sends an invitation to the applicant.

If more information is required about prohibition or residency, or if an applicant failed the written citizenship test, an interview will be scheduled with a Citizenship judge. In this case the citizenship judge reviews the application and the test to determine whether the applicant meets the requirements for Citizenship. If deemed necessary the applicant will have an interview scheduled with the Citizenship judge. Bee Movie and Beowulf Movie Review

Bee Movie and Beowulf Movie Review

Bee Movie Review

Bee Movie” stars a very talented voice cast led by Jerry Seinfeld, Mathew Broderick, and Renee Zellweger. This animated film takes place in New York City, where a bee by the name of Barry leaves his bee hive to explore the outside world.

Barry B. Benson (Jerry Seinfeld) has just graduated from college with his buddy Adam Flayman (Mathew Broderick). After Barry realizes that he will be working with the same job for the rest of his life, he decides to explore outside of the hive before he doesn’t have a chance to. Once Barry leaves the hive, but he breaks one very important bee rule: Never talk to humans. He meets a human by the name of Vanessa Bloome (Renee Zellweger), who saved his life. The two become close friends, but soon Barry finds out that the humans have been stealing honey from the bees for profit. He decides to sue the human race for stealing their honey.

Jerry Seinfeld adds some witty humor to a well mannered story about bees that will even amuse ones who aren’t fans of Jerry Seinfeld. This is a step towards great animation that adults will enjoy just as much as the children. Not a moment is dull in this sweet gift of a film. Although, some moments are absolutely ridiculous, those are overlooked considering all of the animated duds made this year. This is one of the better animated films of the year.

Bee Movie has all the special ingredients that make these films bearable for adults. It has a few big laughs scattered through the whole film. Jerry Seinfeld puts forth a worthy family film that has many clever moments. “Bee Movie” is funny, witty, and as sweet as honey.

A clever little animated flick that, in my humble opinion, puts a sting on “Ratatouille”. “Bee Movie” is sure to please kids as well as entertain adults with its clever ideas. Funny at times and has a talented cast. Spread the buzz around to those who found “Ratatouille” a bore.

Beowulf Movie Review

“Beowulf” stars Ray Winstone, Anthony Hopkins, John Malkovich, Robert Wright Penn, Brendan Gleeson, Crispin Glover, Alison Lohman, and Angelina Jolie. The film takes place in a village that is being disrupted by a beast. This is an adventure/fantasy that will be marveled only by its new age of animation.

“Beowulf” starts off with the village having a loud party that agitates the town beast, who has sensitive ears and goes by the name Grendal (Crispin Glover). The king (Anthony Hopkins) is tired of the destruction that Grendal has caused the town and calls upon the hero Beowulf (Ray Winstone). Beowulf then agrees to slay the beast. After his encounter with Grendal ends with Grendal missing an arm, Beowulf is unaware that the beast has an angry mother (Angelina Jolie) that he must face after slaying Grendal.

“Beowulf” puts the stunning animation that was used for “The Polar Express” to bloody good use. The problem with …
