You’ve worked hard and successfully met all of the extensive licensing requirements. You successfully completed your truck driver training, passed the commercial drivers license exam and the Department of Transportation Medical Exam.

Newly licensed drivers are often hired by trucking companies which will place them with an experienced driver who will be their trainer for a period of time. How to Get the Most Out of Joining the Military

How to Get the Most Out of Joining the Military

So you are thinking about joining the military and want to make good choices regarding your career from the start. Whether you decide to have a long successful career and retire or you want to be a short timer and get out after your first contract you can have a very successful career post military as a contractor or in the civilian sector. How fast you become successful depends how you spend your time while you are in the military but we will talk about that in another article. Will you have a job in the military that is marketable in the contracting world or the civilian sector? Most people who have been in the military have a marketable skill they can carry over to the contracting world or the civilian sector once they get out. I would like to say all of those who get out have the experience needed to become successful even though I hear some former military personnel say that is not the case and they learned nothing of value in the military. As hard as that is for me to believe I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say there may be a small percentage of people getting out of the military that have no skills to use in the contracting world or civilian job market. If that is the case they probably did not take the time to pick a good career path in the military and did not take any classes while they were in. I will discuss ways you can avoid getting yourself in this situation. At the very least make sure you get the GI bill when you enlist this way you have money for school you can use once you get out of the military. If you want there are ways to use your GI bill while you are still in the military so that is one option you have to increase your marketability before you get out.

When you finally make your decision to join and take that trip to the recruiter you should do a few things before you go there. Remember this is a big decision and the choices you make now will affect your career path for the next three or more years depending on the length of your enlistment. This is not going to be something you can quit if you don’t like it or change jobs into another field after a year. You are picking the career you are going to be in for at least three to four years. The military uses a test called the ASVAB test that they give you so they know what jobs you qualify for. If you pick a field you want to work in you must have a high enough ASVAB score before they let you enlist in the job field. Go to the ASVAB page on to take the tests and see how you do. You can also see the minimum ASVAB …

How Fast Do You Need to Type to Be a Medical Transcriptionist?

How Fast Do You Need to Type to Be a Medical Transcriptionist?

Many students contemplating a career in medical transcription may have concerns about their typing speed. How fast students need to type to become medical transcriptionists depends largely upon the environment they choose to work in. The good news is that there are plenty of things students can do to improve the speed of their typing if they do not meet the standards needed to work in a traditional office environment or for one of the top online companies.

Traditional Medical Transcription Work

Typing speed requirements for medical transcriptionists that work in a traditional office environment will vary. Each business will set their own hiring standards. Faster typists are more likely to obtain work quickly and may find themselves in a position to negotiate for better wages and benefits.

Those planning to begin their transcription career in a traditional office environment should have a minimum typing speed of 30 WPM. Speeds of 50 WPM or more are preferable. Some better paying positions will not consider transcriptionists that cannot achieve speeds of 70 WPM or more. Students that want to begin a medical transcription career should not let these standards discourage them if speed of their typing falls short. There are many ways to increase their speed and plenty of online opportunities that pay for transcription work by the piece, allowing workers to set their own pace.

Online Opportunities for Medical Transcriptionists

Many online opportunities for medical transcription work pay by the piece. Typing speed is irrelevant to obtaining the position. Businesses that pay by the piece for medical transcription work will expect that assignments maintain a high standard for accuracy. Sloppy work is almost always rejected without pay. In extreme cases, assignments may be handed off to other workers for completion.

Since these online medical transcription opportunities essentially pay for performance, transcriptionists really have incentive to improve their speed and accuracy. A medical transcriptionist that can produce large volumes of highly accurate work will make far more money than one who sets lower standards for quantity and quality.

A few companies that offer work from home opportunities for medical transcription do have typing standards even if they are using a pay-by-the-piece model. They believe in offering their clients the highest standards of work and believe that only the best typists can fulfill their clients demands. These businesses may choose not to hire workers who do not meet their standards for typing speed or accuracy. On the other side, these businesses tend to pay more per piece for medical transcription work.

Freelance Medical Transcription

Freelancers set their own hours, rates of pay and standards for quality, speed and accuracy. Virtually anyone with training as a medical transcriptionist and the tools to do the job can set up their own freelance operation, regardless of typing speed. However, typing speed affects the amount of work a freelancer can commit to. As with pay-by-the-piece opportunities, faster typists will earn more money.

How to Improve Typing Speed

There are many ways transcriptionists can improve speed of …

How Electrical Engineering Continues to Change the World

How Electrical Engineering Continues to Change the World

Electrical engineering may seem like a boring profession, especially if the first person that comes to mind is the public utility repairman who fixed the neighborhood power grid. Contrary to popular belief, a degree in electrical engineering leads to career opportunities bigger than that. Behind some of the latest and greatest innovations is a workforce that is well-versed on the subject.

Cellular Telecommunications

A few decades ago, the first publicly available handheld phones were bulky and with bad reception. By the 90’s and with thanks to the electrical engineering developments towards GSM technologies, mobile phones soon did more than just make and receive calls. Today, it has become a race to the smallest, most multi-functional mobile phone. Headway in electrical engineering and the subsequent circulation of the science means more companies need creative individuals. And this is just to keep up with the competition. That’s not even taking into account the perks of such a world-changing occupation.

Computer Electronics

The boost in the mobile world is owed largely to the impressive breakthroughs in computer technology. These original steps forward are owed to the electrical engineering concepts behind them. Even now, electrical engineering knowhow is necessary in order to come up with devices that get continually more complex as its operation becomes simpler. Before the software developers came up with the applications that make our lives easier, someone made the increasingly sophisticated networks and computers that they are stored in. Whose midnight oil do you think was burned to make the hardware and software giants the successes that they are?

Space Exploration

Rocket science may have been ultimately responsible for putting a man on the moon. Yet it was the resolve and commitment of electrical engineering professionals that made it possible to see three-dimensional renditions of the planet Mars. It is their skills that are put to the test when equipment stop functioning or have new requirements. They continue to challenge the existing limitations by changing how we view them and the world in general. This makes them the best bet towards future journeys outside our solar system.

You may intend to follow in the innovative entrepreneurial milestones of and expert like Thomas Edison. You may idolize the large leaps and bounds in the science made by Nikola Tesla. Either way, electrical engineering has a place for you. All it asks is that you stay passionate, motivated and dedicated to persevere and make those milestones, leaps and bounds.…

Advantages and Disadvantages of Working As an Interim Manager

Advantages and Disadvantages of Working As an Interim Manager

There’s no doubt about it, Interim recruitment is a growing area of business and one that offers many benefits to those who choose to follow this career path. This article explores the many advantages and also the disadvantages of working as an Interim Manager, so read on to find out what they may be.

Interim Management is a term that is becoming increasingly well-known in business these days. It means exactly what it says; it is a role where management for a particular area or sector of a business is provided by an individual for an interim period of time.

More and more people are turning to this type of management as a career because of the many benefits it offers in terms of flexibility and business experience but every job has its drawbacks so it’s important to consider what these are if you’re thinking about working as an Interim Manager.

Advantages of working as an Interim Manager

One of the best things about this type of management as a career is the flexibility that comes with it. Short-term contracts that pay well offer you the opportunity to take work as and when you require. This allows for travel, study or time off in between to enable you to follow other commitments.

With a growing global market, Interim Management is the perfect industry to be in if you thrive on change and are not tied down to a single location.

Working as an Interim Manager also has benefits in the way that each new assignment usually comes with a different set of guidelines and expected outcomes giving you a goal and a challenge all in one job.

Disadvantages of Interim Management as a Job

This type of management is not the right job for you if you are the kind of person who needs permanence and a fixed and steady working career. A lack of financial security in leaner times is certainly not advisable.

Experience is everything when it comes to making an Interim Management role work for you. Unless you have at least ten years’ worth of experience behind you in a management position then you may find it hard to land decent assignments.

Similarly, if you don’t have an impeccable track record in your chosen field of expertise with visibly measurable success then you may find that you have trouble finding a similar role elsewhere.

This is not a role for you if you do not feel comfortable in new situations and do not find it easy to adapt to the different cultures within an organisation. Working as this type of manager requires you to be able to walk into a role and adjust instantly. If you’re not open to change then don’t even consider this.

So as you can see, there are many advantages and disadvantages to working as an Interim Manager. Once you’ve familiarised yourself with what they are, you can make an informed decision on whether this is the kind of role for you.…

Brad Pitt and His Accomplishments

Brad Pitt and His Accomplishments

William Bradley Pitt or Brad Pitt was born on December 18, 1963 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to parents William Alvin Pitt, a truck company owner, and Jane Etta Pitt, a high school guidance counselor. He has two younger siblings, Doug and Julie Neal. Despite being born in Oklahoma, the Pitts grew up in Springfield, Missouri, and were raised as conservative Southern Baptists. He attended and excelled in high school at the Kickapoo High School, where he was very active in extra-curricular activities and sports such as swimming, tennis, golf, debates, and in high school musicals. He went on to study at the University of Missouri where he majored in journalism and advertising. During his last semester at the university, Brad realized that he had stronger aspirations in the world of acting, dropped out, and headed to Los Angeles to pursue an acting career.

Pitt had a string of odd jobs in Los Angeles, from being a stripper’s chauffeur to delivering refrigerators. All these he did while enrolling himself in acting classes. After seven months of hard work, Brad Pitt was able to get his own agent as well as acting jobs. He first started in television in shows such as Dallas, Growing Pains, and Another World. During these years, he also met his then-girlfriend Juliette Lewis during the filming of a TV movie Too Young to Die. In 1989, Pitt had his big screen debut in Cutting Class, but it was his role in Ridley Scott’s Thelma and Louis that caught Hollywood’s attention. Unfortunately, his next few films The Favor, Johnny Suede, and Cool World were not enough to boost his credibility as an actor and just garnered him the title of a Hollywood pretty boy. Only when he starred in A River Runs through It later that same year did he deliver such a great performance that Hollywood took notice of Pitt as more than just a pretty face. His next major role which again garnered much critical attention was in the movie Interview with the Vampire with Tom Cruise. His following films Legends of the Fall and Seven only secured his place in Hollywood. During the filming of Seven, he met and fell in love at first sight with then quite unknown actress Gwyneth Paltrow and eventually got engaged after two and a half years together. Sadly, the couple split for unknown reasons seven months after their engagement.

Pitt went on to star in critically acclaimed films such as Devil’s Own, Seven Years in Tibet, Meet Joe Black, and Twelve Monkeys for which he won a Golden Globe as best supporting actor. He later reteamed with David Fincher, director of Seven, to shoot the film Fight Club which soon became a cult film. Soon after, Pitt worked on more critically acclaimed films such as Snatch, Troy, and the Ocean’s Eleven franchise. In 2005, he worked on the film Mr. and Mrs. Smith with Angelina Jolie, whom he would later end up with three adopted children and three biological children. …
