Helping Your ADD/HD Child

Helping Your ADD/HD Child

A number of factors need to be considered when you are told that your child is ADD/HD. The first thing you want to do is to understand all you can about ADD/HD. You also want to sit down and list what it means for your child, as a unique individual being, to be ADD/HD. Remember that this diagnosis is observational in nature.

If your child is ADD/HD, then your child was born ADD/HD. What has happened that has made it need to be labeled now? What were the stops along way that led from high energy, curious, creative and bright to disabled? Start a journal about your child, ask for observations, especially from the people who are around your child when you are not.

Ask yourself and other key people in your child’s life questions like: Are there times of day, days of the weeks, or certain situations which seem to trigger the child? Keep a food log and keep track as much as possible of what your child is eating. Are their certain foods that cause spikes and crashes? Or certain foods that lead to acting out or melting down? How about certain situations or people? Did the child have a year at school, or experience at camp where their behavior seemed to go to unmanageable? Were there major shifts in your child’s world such as living situations, acquiring or loss of a close friend or family member?

Talk with your child and have them tell you as much about their days as possible and compare it with what other people experienced of them that day. See where they may be making incorrect assumptions or did not understand the larger picture of what was going on in a certain situation.

Keep in mind that all very bright children have a great deal going on in their head and are impatient to learn, to understand, and will disconnect when bored.

If teachers or other people are strongly pushing the idea that your child is ADD/HD, ask them to be as specific as possible as to why. In order to gain a better understanding of what is going on, enlist them in getting the answers to the questions you are keeping track of. Also, ask what they think the solutions are if your child is ADD/HD. If they want to move to a drug based solution, make sure you are clear if there are benefits for them to have your child drugged and easier to manage.

Maybe your child is gifted with ADD/HD, so what you want to stay clear on is: When did that gift become an unmanageable problem, and will medication solve problems or mask them? First, remember that many factors are going on in your child’s life which could lead to a request for an official diagnosis and a recommendation of medication, and that in medicating, those factors will easily get lost because the medication seems to solve all the problems.

Career Planning Homework – Assignments For Job Seekers

Career Planning Homework – Assignments For Job Seekers

Back-to-school season has me thinking about school and it’s similarities to career planning. When searching for your next job, you should think of networking as your schoolwork-you should concentrate on contacting your network about opportunities and following up with the leads. As in school, sometimes getting the job means cramming for an interview and doing extra credit work to get past some unexpected hiring obstacles.

Below, I’ve outlined three additional things-essentially homework assignments-which will help you get past some of the hiring obstacles.

Assignment #1: Keep up with your chosen industry

Whatever industry you chose to work in, you need know the current trends and the forecast for the future by reading publications and blogs. You should also go one step past that and follow blogs and tweets of those companies you where you want to work. Keeping up with the industry has the advantage of helping you expand your network by introducing you to others through blog comments or tweets and gives you an advantage in knowing which companies are in trouble and which ones could be hiring soon. Another good way to keep up with their work and changes in their clients or organization is to use Google Alerts to receive articles and blogs about that company. It is also a smart idea to follow industry gossip blogs to know about internal strife and situations in a company. In addition to keeping up with the industry, you should leverage LinkedIn groups and join those relevant to your target industry. This will help broaden your network and expand your profile on LinkedIn while keeping you updated on the industry.

Assignment #2: Update phrases for your résumé, cover letters, and correspondence

With computer programs scanning résumés for certain key words and phrases it is imperative to do the research and know which ones they will be seeking out. Usually those words are in the job post. If there is not a job post-say you have a contact within the company and are passing on your résumé through them-then you should look at similar job posts and job boards. Comb through your résumé and cover letter for outdated terms and titles and eliminate them. Using the current industry terms and phrases shows you are up-to-date and give your résumé a higher score by the scanners, making you stick out of a crowd.

Extra Credit: Brush up on necessary skills

Sometimes great job candidates are excluded for lack of skills. If an opportunity you want calls for skills you don’t have, you should take the time to learn those skills. Courses are usually available at local colleges, Apple Stores, and the U.S. Small Business Administration. In addition, several sites offer online tutorials and webinars for skills and software. This homework assignment may be more time consuming than the others, but will pay off when you get past some of the hiring hurdles keeping you from your next job.

Taking the extra time to keep up with your industry, update your language, and …

Destruction Of The Rain Forest – Not All Acai Products Are Equal

Destruction Of The Rain Forest – Not All Acai Products Are Equal

The Amazon joins 1.2 billion acres on the South American continent's north side of which the part is in Brazil and covers almost one half of that intensive country. Tha matter of fact is, the Amazon and its fertilizer ground for various plants and animals that thrive in its exotic climate, that the products from the Amazon are better than what we call organic – they are wild. Things that grow in the wild are strong in their own defense mechanisms to fight against insects and all manners of combatants, as a result. Amazon products such as the Brazil nut, guarana, and the Acai berry being recognized for their complex make up and concentrated nutritional values.

Destruction of rain forest!

Deforestation of the Amazon rain forest reached its highest in the years of 2004 and 2005. Satellite photos show loggers burned and cut down a near record over 10.000 square miles of rain forest in 2004 alone.

One of the main reasons is the world demand for heart-of-palm which is a Salad Garnish. It was known, poachers were illegally chopping down 5,000 to 10,000 palm trees a week. This was just to get the 30 to 40 cm (12 to 16 inch) section found near the crown of a 20 meter (65 foot) palm tree.

Just for this delicacy one poet would have chopped down an average of 50 trees a day only to earn roughly $ 1 for every tree from which the heart-of-palm was removed. Once the heart is removed, the tree dies and rots.

The harvest of a palm tree that has grown for over 100 years has just enough of this delicacy to fill two 14-oz cans of heart-of-palm. This would retail in a supermarket for less than $ 5.00 per can. To feed salad bars and salad connoisseurs world-wide, is this worth destruction of the palm and the rain forest? It is specifically a waste because the heart-of-palm has no particular nutritional value beyond its fiber.

This is not the case with the Acai berry which has significant nutritional density and the harvesting of it is a complete different approach.

Harvesting the Acai this way may safe the jungle!

Because of the huge interest and demand of the Acai berry, this has started to help the locals to realize that cutting down these precious palm trees just for a few inches of the top core of the tree was no longer a solution, and found that there Are better options available. Every palm tree produces an abundant crop of Acai fruit twice a year. Within a few years, the value of the palm fruit itself exceeded by the value of removing the top core of the palm just for the use as a salad garnish.

Therefore, a legitimate reason was found not to cut down those trees by harvesting the Acai berry another way.

Laborers now climb high into the 90-foot palm to collect what is known as the Black Pearl of the Amazon.
